Thank you :)

I would like to thank my college friend for helping me learn how to link on blogspot. Oh and for teaching me how to throw a spiral.

Football, football, and more football

Tis the season for football. Devin has had practice every day and Jason just started this week. Devin's scrimage was cancelled on Wednesday. This week he has his first real game on the 29th. The middle school team got free tickets to go to the hs game on Friday. We let him go with his friends. Surprisingly the hs team won. Who knew it was possible?! I feel for the Geneva team as we are not known for winning. Glad our guys have a win. Maybe that momentum will carry over to the Perry game this week. One can hope. Meanwhile, my hs team was crushed. Never really followed Mentor football. As much as I love football I just never followed my own schools team. It makes no sense I know.

Jason plays for the Wolverines. Yes, this makes my friend Eric happy because cheering for the Wolverines in any way, even in midget league, is the way it should be. I helped J memorize the holes for practice today. Games don't start for a couple weeks so he has time.

We watched the Browns play last night. Really happy to see Brady Quinn do so well. Not that there was any doubt. His first pass was to Charles Ali. We met Charles at the Rookie Meet and Greet. He actually took the time to look at the book Jason wrote and illustrated. Glad to see he did well also.

Kris's baby shower

Last Sunday was the baby shower for my cousin Kris so we left the boat early that morning. The shower was at 2pm which gave me plenty of time to relax. Unfortunately the rain that began the night before had not subsided, it instead increased in intensity. Many guest decided to pass on the party. Only one tent outside covered well which kept the majority of us inside. I ventured out to eat and then later on to play cards (Phase 10). I watched them play for a bit to learn and didn't get to play until Kris's son Cameron got bored and gave me his spot. My family is super competitive but go easy on me because I am not. It could be because they are being nice or that it just isn't fun to bust the chops of someone who doesn't care. I really enjoyed it. Kris received just about everything. She has two boys already but gave away everything just before she found out she was pregnant again. Isn't that the way it goes?! She was scheduled to have a c-section Friday. She had a baby girl Mylee.

After it was over, I stayed to help clean up. I didn't get home until 8 or 9pm. This is the most I have seen my dad's side of the family in a while. I have seen them 3 times in the last 3 weeks. I think that is a record.

So the aliens are camping here?

While watching Independence Day Jason said, thinking the RVs in the desert heading toward Will Smith were the aliens, "So the aliens are here to go camping?"

Arrrr...I'm a pirate wench!

Last weekend David and I went to a pirate party thrown by our friend Todd. Yep, we dressed accordingly. I was a saucy pirate wench complete with pirate style boots and fishnets. I almost didn't wear the boots because they were high heeled and spikey but the ground was so soft that they sunk in so it was like wearing flats. David wore a pirate shirt, hoop earring, hat, and pants (cut pajama pants from Target). I would say that less than half the people dressed up. Todd made huge turkey legs and everyone brought side dishes. I was grateful for the ladies who brought the pizza, since I am so darn picky that there was nothing else for me to eat. While we were eating, the DJ showed up only to find that he lost the key to his equipment. Jimmy, Todd's brother and friend to all, immediately came to the rescue. It wasn't long before the music was set up and the sun went down. One of the guys went up with our requests to the DJ. After some time I became impatient that they had yet to play my request of Another One Bites The Dust so I went up myself. Sure enough, the next song was mine. I have to wonder if the costume...um...remember I was a saucy wench...had something to do with it. lol There was another party, a luau, two channels over that Todd's sibs talked us into going to in the middle of the pirate party. There they had karaoke. I do not sing outside of my car, but apparently it is a big thing with everyone else. Lots of food and people. I was excited to see cake. Cake and the electric slide made the party for me. They also had a tv the next dock over where they were watching the Browns game. I didn't realized until it was over. By the time we returned to the pirate party the excitement was over. Women and wenches alike flashed for glow in the dark necklaces that I was able to get for just for looking pretty. No show from me. By this time, most people changed into regular clothes, which never accurred to us. A couple of people David graduated with emerged from the crowd proving once again that the world is a very small place. Turns out we were all invited by different people. They were very nice and funny. By 1am we were ready to turn in. We said our goodbyes and headed for the boat. It was so cool that night we had to put on the heat. Worked out better that way as the costumes were heavy.

Overall, it was a lot of fun. We are looking forward to doing it again next year.

Nesting

Today the new mattresses for the boys came. They don't take up as much room as I thought they would. Devin needs a new and much bigger (longer) book shelf. They both still need new dressers, but then so do I. David and I went out to Davitino's tonight. It is the absolute favorite italian restaurant. We finished errands afterward which included trips to Linens and Things, Pat Catans, and Giant Eagle. I have the new sheets in the wash now. David finally put up the world map in the family room. It looks awesome. I bought a frame for my Japanese water lilies and bridge poster, but the size is a bit off so I might use it for something else. I am in serious nesting mode. No I am not pregnant. Bite your tongue. The movie My Super Ex-girlfriend just came on. I have seen bits and pieces before. I will let you know what I think. Watched The Last Kiss last night. I will post on it too.

Brady Quinn signed with the Browns!!!!!!

Giddy is the word I use to describe....

Yes, yesterday was a reeeaaallly good day. I have had a freakish Batman's The Joker smile on my face from the moment I read the news. If my mother is right, my face is going to freeze like that. I'm okay with that.

We will have to work around our football practice schedules in order to see him at training camp. Well worth it my friends. Devin, Jason, and I all have Browns #10 jerseys ready for the occasion. Although I must admit, it might look a little insane if we show up like that. I will probably dress like a mom, not a groupie. Well, we'll see when the day comes.

Jason made Brady a Browns football book to give him at the Hall of Fame rookie meet and greet. It is 31 pages long. He never did have an opportunity to give it to him. Maybe he will have a chance at camp.

Jason has been writing football books since kindergarten. Every book was about Notre Dame beating some college team. He made me print out the list of every college team from espn's site so they could beat them all. This is his first NFL book. The Browns can thank Brady Quinn for that.

Trip to Geneva

Saturday afternoon we took a trip to Geneva State Park Marina with some other boats. The lake was really rough. I wore my wrist bands and took my sea sickness med which mixed with my allergy med to make me very sleepy. I kept nodding off. In doing so, I head butted J 5 times; Not hard, but enough to notice. It took an hour to get there.

It's a nice place. Almost all t docks. Another boat, friends of the people we were with, came in a bit later and we had to raft off of them because it was bigger. Not fond of rafting off. Will not be doing that again. The marina was very quiet. Lots of common green space and beach. They only had one port-a-pot on our side but you could call the main building for a ride to their restrooms. The main building had a little shop and grill. The park has a beautiful lodge not far from the marina. As we walked past, there was a wedding party taking pictures in the gazebo. It was lovely. Not the brides maid dresses, but the bride and groom were anyway. The brides maid dresses were a hideous green. That bride knew what she was doing. lol. The maid of honor however had a pretty white sleeveless dress with green flowers. The trail ran along the shoreline above the rocks. There were enough benches to accommodate every visitor at the lodge. The bridge connecting the lodge to the marina was a covered in names of young lovers. The view from that point was the sun setting over the lake on one side and the moss covered river shaded by the trees on the other. I wish I had brought my camera. Before the sun set, we walked into town. There we played putt-putt. It was a 18 hole course. Somewhere at the middle we noticed that the sound we kept hearing wasn't background noise from the business but the croaking of a small frog hanging out on a rock. It was the strangest sound. Devin gets credit for finding him. After that, we bought tickets for the bumper boats and go carts. J was tall enough to go on the bumper boats by himself but not the go carts. I was worried I would just go in circles. I did every time someone hit me. In between spinning, I did manage to ram into all of my family. For some reason I am the only person who got wet. My shoes, shorts, shirt...no clothing was spared. There was a long line for the go carts which gave me plenty of time to dry off. The go carts were fun. Very very bumpy ride. We had just enough time afterward to play some games in the arcade. I was happy that the prizes for tickets were reasonable. There were lots of items in the 2-25 ticket range. The boys came away with candy, plastic bugs and animals, and the like. The lake chilled the air enough to make us comfortable sleeping on the boat. We left for home early this morning. The lake was calm. I didn't even have to where my wrist bands!

I got an A!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took my final exam for sociology yesterday. I have been anxiously checking Blackboard to see my grade ever since. I was pleasantly surprised to see it up tonight. I got an A on my final and an A in the class! It is a very good day.
We were supposed to be on our way to Canada by now but that was not to be. The boys were disappointed because with us gone they were to spend time with their aunt, uncle, and cousins. We arranged for them to spend a few hours with them today instead. While they were away, David and I went to dinner, stopped at Lowes for a few things, and went to Fine Interiors to buy new mattresses for the boys (or as my friend would say, boy one and boy two.) The mattresses they have now are seven years old and terribly uncomfortable. The ones we bought are pillow topped. Very nice. There was a sale so we bought both sets (full size) for the same price we bought our queen sized pillow top not six months before. Now between the light blocking shades and the mattresses they will never want to wake up.

Earlier today I took Devin in for his sports physical. It was a bit of a wait. After completing the paper work, I went to pay. Devin came out because he was uncomfortable setting in the waiting room alone. We went back and sat down for 45 minutes before he was called. I got up to go with him but reconsidered. He is now 13. I thought it was time for me to let him go on his own. He appreciated it but missed having someone to talk to while waiting for the doctor. I hadn't thought of that. Doctor gave him a clean bill of health. Found that Devin is now officially taller than me.

When we got home, Jason was making tanks and armies out of playdoh. The tanks were quite good whereas the people were little balls, easier to smash I guess. Devin tried out Jason's new helicopter he got from grandpa. Works better inside than out. Outside the wind kept taking it. It is pretty cool.

Right now, we are eating left over ice cream cake from my birthday and watching Cinderella Man. Paul Giamatti. I just love saying that name.
