Our Girl, Big Kitty

Thursday morning Big Kitty was coming down the stairs and her legs gave out. It was lucky that only four steps were before her at the time. She ate and then went into the family room and that is when she changed. She would pace, go in circles, pace, run into things, and freeze for seconds at time. This lasted for about an hour before she tired herself out and went to sleep. I thought she might be having a stroke but she also looked like she was sleep walking. It was weird. She was fine the rest of the day and all of Friday. So we rationalized and decided it was just a weird isolated event. Sadly, we were mistaken. David heard her crying but could not find her. She had her head wedged between the fish tank and the wall. She never goes behind the fish tank. He got her free and laid her on the floor. There she twitched. She was very weak. We called the vet to tell him we were coming. I got the boys to come down and spend some time with her just in case she was dying. She is 16.
Dr. Richmon confirmed that she had a hemorrhagic stroke. She had hemorrhages in both eyes. He gave her iv fluids because she was dehydrated and a cortisone shot to control swelling. We decided to have the blood work done. We have our fingers crossed that the strokes resulted from anemia, diabetes, or thyroid related because that is something we can control. If the strokes are caused by liver or kidney failure...let's not go there just yet.

We found Big Kitty and her sister BoBo outside our apartment building a week after we were married. She is our girl. I hate the way this feels.

Devin and Jason have been so sweet and attentive. They are taking great care of her. She can't see yet so we are keeping a close eye on her to keep her safe. She just got her head stuck under the cabinet which I didn't think was possible. So we are trying to anticipate any danger to her right now. The kitchen is off limits for sure.
