New Jersey - The State of Confusion

On our way to catch a cruise we had a layover in Secaucus, New Jersey. We planned our route using www.mapquest.com. We made it to Secaucus fine, but the map didn't explain the subtle nuances that make the New Jersey freeway system a treat to travel. We spent an hour and a half looking for our hotel. We passed Giants stadium several times. I swear we saw the neighborhood shot for the Sopranos intro. Lots of garbage. This with map in tow and after calling the hotel for more specific directions. What we found was that a U-turn does not mean the same thing there as it does here. When I think U-turn I picture those dirt paths between the freeway lanes that only the police are supposed to use. No, not the case in New Jersey. There it means getting off the freeway like an exit and getting back on what would would consider an entrance ramp. We discovered this by stopping at a gas station and asking directions (after me stereotypically nagging David into submission).

Well, I'm happy to say that Secaucus was wonderful. They had this plaza directly across from our hotel that contained several restaurants, a movie theater, donut shop, retail, etc...What I liked best was the way it was layed out. They had stone walkways, trees, and benches. It was lovely.

So the state of New Jersey no longer leaves us in a state of confusion.
